Job Description: Telecom Engineer – ELV & Substation
Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Telecom Engineer specializing in Substation Automation Systems (SAS), Protection & Control Systems (PDS), OTDR Testing, and Fiber Splicing. The role involves installation, testing, commissioning, troubleshooting, and coordination of telecom and ELV systems in substations. The engineer will also act as a key interface between vendors, customers, and project teams.
Key Responsibilities:
• Installation & Commissioning:
• Install and configure telecom and ELV systems.
• Ensure proper integration of SAS/PDS communication with SCADA, RTUs, and IEDs.
• Conduct pre-commissioning, commissioning, and testing of telecom and ELV infrastructure.
• Fiber Optic Testing & Splicing:
• Perform fiber-optic splicing, termination, and cable jointing.
• Conduct OTDR testing, power meter testing, and fiber loss measurement to ensure network integrity.
• Diagnose and rectify fiber-optic cable faults using appropriate testing tools.
• Testing & Troubleshooting:
• Carry out Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT) for telecom and ELV systems.
• Troubleshoot SAS/PDS communication, networking, and connectivity issues in substations.
• Ensure compliance with IEC 61850 and other telecom standards.
• Vendor & Customer Coordination:
• Liaise with vendors, subcontractors, and customers for technical support and issue resolution.
• Review vendor technical documents, provide feedback, and ensure timely material delivery.
• Coordinate with substation engineers, automation teams, and utility clients for project execution.
• Documentation & Reporting:
• Prepare technical reports, OTDR test reports, fiber splicing records, and commissioning reports.
• Maintain records of installed telecom systems, test results, and issue logs.
• Provide regular progress updates to project managers and stakeholders.
Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications, Electrical, or Electronics Engineering.
• 3+ years of experience in substation telecom, SAS/PDS, and fiber-optic communication.
• Hands-on experience in OTDR testing, fiber splicing, and loss testing.
• Proficiency in networking protocols (TCP/IP, MPLS, SDH, PDH).
• Experience in FAT/SAT, troubleshooting, and commissioning of telecom systems.
• Strong communication and coordination skills with vendors and customers.
