Job Description HVAC-Mechanical Engineer

Functional Responsibilities

The functions/duties/key results of the assignment

The Mechanical Site Engineer shall work under the direct supervision of the Project Manager. The Mechanical Engineer will give his technical expertise and knowledge in HVAC as required to manage and coordinate any designs assigned, site supervision, commissioning and related documentation works.

He is responsible for managing staff under his supervision and ensure high quality design documentation and site works are carried out on time and on or under budget. The tasks would involve the following but not limited to:

• Coordination and supervision of installation of the mechanical HVAC system and plumbing services of projects?

• Assist the project team and logistics division in procurement of mechanical HVAC system and related materials required to complete assigned work.

• Review Design and mechanical installation and services in buildings; Ventilations, Air Conditioning, HVAC and ducting systems.

• Assist contract division in preparing and evaluation of tender documents of mechanical/plumbing engineering services (specifications, BOQs, rates, test reports, etc.)

• Review the design of mechanical and plumbing services of projects;

• Manage testing, commission and handover of mechanical and plumbing deliverables to clients.

Specifically, the Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for the following substantive tasks.

Technical tasks:

• Review design briefs and the design reports that address specific clients and stakeholder requirements and specifications as and when necessary.

• Comprehensive review of design documentation, specifications and other project documents to meet the required quality and detailing as stipulated by the Project Manager.

• Work closely with other Engineers, project manager and Quantity Surveyors in the planning of projects, scheduling of tasks and developing an integrated execution plan.

• Review and ensure the documents prepared meets the quality standard requirements.

• Responsible for timely delivery of the expected outputs.

• Carry out installation of services for projects according to the Client’s Design requirement and as per international standards and codes of practices.

• Monitor delivery of services design documents. Highlight possible late delivery prior to the event.

• Carry out site inspections and assessments as required and prepare reports when required.

• Proactively manage the design/review projects, ensuring that they meet the high standards, while delivering the project within its time and budget constraints.

• Liaise with clients and address requirements.

• Coordinate the works and submissions with all other disciplines; Architectural, Structural and Electrical Design Engineers and Quantity Surveyors (QS).

• Carry out research and identify appropriate technologies/techniques/designs that can be incorporated in the project design,

• Carry out technical reviews as appropriate,

• Co-ordinate the team effort to complete any task as would be required and appropriate if assigned.

Administrative tasks:

• Manage mechanical and plumbing engineering related material requirements.

• Assist in scheduling requested tasks related to mechanical works

• Perform other related duties as requested by the Project Manager.

Education/Experience/Language requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from a reputable University with appropriate experience in design, installation, supervision or implementation of mechanical works in buildings construction

• At least 4 years of experience in Mechanical HVAC and Plumbing systems, construction site installations, supervision and construction for medium to large-scale construction projects.

• Knowledge in computer software, particularly “AutoCAD” and Microsoft office is required.

• Work Experience of 3-5 years as site Engineer mainly for HVAC installations (Chilled water & Dx systems).

• Membership of the Saudi Engineers Association.

Technical & personal competencies:

• Design knowledge and back ground for building mechanical systems and construction of HVAC chiller plants and networks: including heating cooling DX systems, ventilation and smoke extraction.

• Knowledge and background in building automation, BMS (Building management Systems).

• Metrics and analytics: for HVAC activities, including HVAC calculation for different types of equipment, air handling units, hydraulic systems, sanitary networks.

• Specification and follow-up of technical aspects of a contract.

• Managing self: taking initiative beyond regular tasks and making things happen.

• Achieving results: driving work / projects along and seeing them through to their conclusion.

• Solving problems: anticipating obstacles; assessing alternative solutions in order to have a fallback plan Identifying, defining and assessing problems, taking action to address them.
