Job Description:

To ensure the successful design, execution, and completion of civil and structural engineering projects by providing technical design expertise, rigorous quality control, and on-site construction supervision. The role bridges the gap between design intent and practical field implementation, ensuring projects are built safely, on time, within budget, and to specified quality standards.

Key Responsibilities:

A. Design & Engineering (Office-Based)

Structural Analysis & Design: Perform analysis and design of structural elements (concrete, steel, masonry, timber) for buildings, bridges, infrastructure, or industrial facilities using relevant codes and software (e.g., ETABS, SAP2000, STAAD.Pro, AutoCAD, Revit).

Civil Engineering Design: Prepare designs for site works, earthworks, grading, drainage, utilities, roads, and pavements.

Drawing & Documentation: Prepare and review detailed construction drawings, specifications, and bill of quantities (BOQ). Ensure design compliance with local building codes, regulations, and client requirements.

Design Coordination: Coordinate with architects, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) engineers to integrate structural and civil systems.

Technical Review: Review contractor-submitted shop drawings, method statements, material submittals, and calculations for compliance with design intent.

B. Construction Supervision & Field Inspection (Site-Based)

Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC):

Conduct daily inspections of all civil/structural works (formwork, reinforcement, concrete pours, steel erection, masonry, etc.).

Ensure materials on site meet approved specifications and standards.

Witness and approve material testing (concrete slump tests, cube tests, soil compaction, rebar tests).

Safety Compliance: Monitor site activities to ensure compliance with project safety plans and regulations. Identify and report potential hazards.

Progress Monitoring & Reporting: Track construction progress against the schedule. Prepare daily and weekly site reports, including progress photos, manpower, equipment, issues encountered, and resolutions.

Shop Drawing & RFI Management: Review and respond to Contractor's Requests for Information (RFIs). Approve shop drawings for construction.

Variation & Change Order Management: Assess and verify site conditions for potential design changes. Evaluate contractor claims for variations in scope and quantify the technical aspects for cost evaluation.

Stakeholder Coordination: Serve as the primary technical point of contact between the site contractor, the client, and the design office. Chair site coordination meetings.

Snagging & Defects Liability: Create punch lists of incomplete or defective work. Monitor and close out defects during the warranty period.

C. General Duties

Mentorship: Provide guidance to junior engineers and site inspectors.

Continuous Improvement: Stay updated with the latest engineering codes, construction techniques, and software.

Project Compliance: Ensure all work adheres to project contracts, policies, and procedures.

Qualifications & Experience:

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Civil/Structural Engineering from an accredited institution. A Master’s degree is a plus.
